Woodland Star International Schools mantra is ad astra per aspera, meaning through hardships to the stars. Located in the complex dynamics of a developing country, we recognize the great challenges that the world faces today. As a school, we have an incredible opportunity to empower children to see, to think, and to become. Woodland Star is a place of stability and mindful transformation, enabling children to reach beyond the limitations constructed around them. Through avant-garde education, exploration of identity, and a strong environmental focus, we offer a holistic experience that teaches children to discover their passions, analyze society, and value connectedness. Job Description

Role Overview

As a school library intern, you will be at the heart of daily library operations, helping students and staff discover resources, borrow materials, and build strong research habits. Your work will directly support the school’s literacy programmes and reading culture, making the library a welcoming hub for curiosity and learning. This hands-on placement is ideal for someone beginning a career in library and information science, especially within an educational setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day flow of library materials—checking books in and out, shelving returns, and keeping the collection neatly arranged.
  • Create a friendly and organised library space that invites students to explore, read, and study comfortably.
  • Help students and teachers locate books, reference materials, and digital resources, offering guidance on how to use them effectively.
  • Support the cataloguing, labelling, and preparation of new library acquisitions so they are ready for circulation.
  • Assist in running library lessons, reading sessions, and literacy initiatives that encourage a lifelong love of books.
  • Contribute to school-wide events such as book fairs, author visits, reading challenges, and themed reading days.
  • Reinforce responsible use of library resources and digital citizenship among students.
  • Keep accurate circulation and inventory records, and help with stock checks and reporting.
  • Design and refresh displays, bulletin boards, and promotional materials that highlight books and reading activities.
  • Work alongside teachers and staff to support student learning, research projects, and collaborative classroom activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Diploma in Library and Information Science, or a closely related field.
  • Comfort with ICT tools and Library Management Systems (LMS) used for cataloguing and circulation.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and keep accurate records.
  • High attention to detail, ensuring correct shelving, cataloguing, and data entry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with children and school staff.
  • A collaborative mindset, comfortable working as part of a school team.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with children and promoting reading, learning, and responsible information use.
  • Prior experience in a school or academic library is an added advantage.
  • A valid police clearance or background check, plus certified copies of academic and professional documents.
  • At least two professional references who can speak to your suitability for this role.

What We Offer

This is an unpaid, voluntary internship placement running for 3 to 6 months. In return, you will gain practical, hands-on experience in a real school library environment, develop your skills in cataloguing, reader guidance, and literacy programming, and play a meaningful role in supporting the school’s mission to nurture curiosity, inclusion, and lifelong learning. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with educators and students, building a strong foundation for a future career in library and information services.
