Job Description

Role Overview

This position is the primary in-house authority on all legal and regulatory compliance matters across the Group’s operations. Day to day, the officer provides prompt legal advisory support to various departments, drafts and reviews contracts, monitors regulatory developments, and manages litigation risks. The role ensures that the company’s interests are legally protected, compliance obligations are met, and all legal records and instruments are properly maintained and accessible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise internal teams on legal implications of business decisions, contracts, and regulatory changes affecting the Group.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, service level agreements, and employment documents.
  • Oversee the company’s compliance with Kenyan laws and industry regulations, identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions.
  • Manage external legal counsel and represent the company in litigation matters, focusing on commercial and employment disputes.
  • Maintain custody of all legal records, including corporate documents, board resolutions, intellectual property registrations, and litigation files.
  • Conduct legal risk assessments for new projects, partnerships, and operational processes, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and update internal policies, codes of conduct, and compliance manuals to align with current legislation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognised university.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
  • Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, with a current practising certificate.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in a reputable legal practice, with a strong focus on commercial litigation.
  • Proven track record in employment law and general commercial law, including hands-on litigation exposure.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide clear, practical legal advice to non-legal stakeholders.
