Job Description

Role Overview

This role sits within the Business Growth Services team and focuses on supporting micro and small entrepreneurs in the Kakuma area. You will spend most of your time delivering hands-on training and one-on-one business consulting, helping local business owners strengthen their operations, improve profitability, and access the right services. Your work directly supports Inkomoko’s mission to build thriving communities by equipping Kenyan entrepreneurs with practical skills and strategic guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and enroll eligible entrepreneurs into the program, clearly communicating the purpose, expectations, and benefits of participation to community members.
  • Serve as an Inkomoko ambassador in Kakuma, engaging with local networks, authorities, and partner organizations to raise awareness and build trust in the program.
  • Coordinate all training logistics, including preparing materials, arranging venues, tracking attendance, and ensuring sessions start and run on schedule.
  • Facilitate training sessions using Inkomoko’s curriculum in English, Swahili, and Somali, and provide feedback to senior trainers on how to improve the modules.
  • Conduct intake assessments for new clients, capturing baseline data and maintaining accurate records in the organization’s electronic tracking systems.
  • Carry out monthly site visits to analyze business performance, prepare cash flow statements, and deliver realistic, strategic advice that helps clients grow or pivot toward greater sustainability.
  • Connect clients to additional Inkomoko services, such as training courses and access to finance, and support investment colleagues with loan applications, due diligence, and credit follow-up.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on client progress, community activities, and program challenges, while assisting the monitoring and evaluation team with surveys and data collection.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Higher Diploma or university degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.
  • Solid grasp of financial and accounting concepts, including experience with cash flow analysis and business financial practices in Kenya.
  • Strong digital literacy, with practical proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal coaching skills: active listening, empathy, and the ability to build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Fluent spoken and written communication in English and Swahili; knowledge of Turkana is a strong advantage.
  • Genuine interest in micro and small businesses, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by local entrepreneurs.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, able to take initiative, learn quickly, and deliver results even under pressure.
  • High personal integrity, professionalism, and critical thinking skills, with an outgoing and approachable manner.
  • Must be based in Kakuma and familiar with the refugee and host community context in Kenya.
  • Access to a smartphone on a continuous basis is considered a plus.
