Role Overview
This position centres on nurturing and expanding relationships with a select group of high-value banking clients, with a strong emphasis on understanding their financial objectives and delivering tailored banking solutions from the institution’s full product suite. Day to day, the Relationship Manager drives revenue and portfolio growth by acquiring new clients, deepening existing relationships, and proactively cross-selling products that maximise the bank’s share of each customer’s wallet. The role is pivotal to the branch’s broader strategy, as it ensures high-net-worth clients remain engaged, satisfied, and loyal to the bank while upholding rigorous compliance and risk-management standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and expand the bank’s asset and liability book by forging new client relationships and cross-selling products across the entire banking portfolio.
- Oversee a customer portfolio of up to 200 clients, with focused, hands-on management of the top 50 to ensure high retention and value growth.
- Act as the second-in-command for the branch, stepping in to drive strategy execution and meet performance targets when the Branch Business Manager is unavailable.
- Serve as the primary relationship owner for high-net-worth individuals, ensuring their banking needs are met with premium, personalised service.
- Drive deposit mobilisation, asset growth, and revenue generation, while continuously monitoring and improving portfolio penetration and customer share.
- Maintain regular, proactive contact with clients to assess satisfaction, foresee emerging needs, and secure long-term business continuity.
- Scrutinise account-opening forms and loan applications for full KYC compliance, verify data accuracy against source documents, and act as a dual custodian to protect bank assets from fraud and loss.
- Interview mortgage applicants to evaluate borrowing needs and recommend the most suitable mortgage products based on each client’s financial profile and aspirations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in business or a related field is required; a master’s degree is a distinct advantage.
- Professional certifications such as the Retail Banking Associate (RBA UK) or equivalent, plus a Customer Relationship Management course; CISI Level 1 certification is a plus.
- At least three years of hands-on experience in a similar relationship management or client-facing banking role.
- Solid working knowledge of banking products, policies, operational procedures, and CBK Prudential Guidelines.
- Proven selling and negotiation skills, underpinned by strong analytical and basic accounting capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), combined with teamwork, interpersonal finesse, and leadership presence.
- Demonstrated integrity and professionalism, with the ability to handle confidential client information responsibly and ethically.
