Job Description

Role Overview

This academic position combines teaching, research, and student mentorship within a university department. Day to day, you will deliver lectures and seminars, develop course materials, assess student work, and provide academic guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Your research output and participation in departmental governance will directly contribute to the institution’s scholarly standing and the continuous improvement of its academic programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, and seminars across undergraduate and postgraduate modules, ensuring content aligns with approved curricula and learning outcomes.
  • Design course outlines, teaching materials, and assessment tools, and evaluate students through examinations, coursework, and project-based assessments.
  • Conduct original research and disseminate findings by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at academic conferences and professional forums.
  • Supervise undergraduate research projects, support postgraduate supervision, and provide ongoing academic mentoring to students.
  • Participate in curriculum development and review, contributing ideas to refine teaching methodologies and enhance educational quality.
  • Engage actively in academic governance by attending departmental meetings, serving on academic committees, and contributing to institutional decision-making.
  • Support research grant applications and funding initiatives, and manage academic facilities such as lecture rooms and laboratories to ensure effective use of resources.
  • Build and maintain connections with industry and professional bodies, fostering collaborations that enrich student learning and research opportunities.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, with a strong academic background appropriate for teaching at university level.
  • A track record of published research in peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating the ability to contribute meaningfully to the field.
  • Prior experience delivering lectures, tutorials, or seminars and assessing student progress, typically gained through academic positions or doctoral teaching assistantships.
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring student research projects, or clear evidence of readiness to take on such responsibilities.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple teaching, research, and administrative duties simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with academic governance processes and participation in committees or working groups is expected.
  • Evidence of proactive engagement with external academic networks, including conferences, professional bodies, or research collaborations.
