Role Overview

This full-time academic position is designed for an accomplished scholar and educator who can contribute immediately to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research production, and the wider intellectual life of the university. Your days will involve preparing and delivering lectures and practical sessions, supervising student projects, designing course materials, and progressing your own research agenda through publications, conference presentations, and grant writing. You will also take an active part in community engagement and institutional service, helping the university achieve its strategic goals while strengthening its reputation as a centre of learning and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach courses assigned by the Head of Department across your specialist discipline, using a mix of lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, fieldwork, and other practical formats suited to the subject matter.
  • Design, develop, and update academic programmes and individual course units at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, contributing to the creation of new programmes when required.
  • Review and refresh teaching materials and curriculum content regularly, incorporating current research, industry trends, and new pedagogical methods to keep programmes relevant and rigorous.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum reviews, programme assessments, and initiatives to improve the quality of teaching, learning, and student support.
  • Conduct original research, prepare competitive grant applications, and pursue consultancies or other scholarly and professional projects that contribute to the university's academic standing.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops, and publish outputs in reputable peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly outlets.
  • Provide mentorship, academic advice, and career guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as early-career staff within the department.
  • Participate in departmental, faculty, and university committees, and undertake any other duties assigned by supervisors in line with the detailed job description.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the relevant discipline, obtained from a recognised and accredited university.
  • Registration with the relevant professional body, or clear eligibility for such registration, where applicable to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated university-level teaching experience, including the ability to deliver engaging lectures and effectively assess student learning.
  • A solid record of research achievement, evidenced by publications and participation in scholarly activities appropriate to the level of appointment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, guide junior colleagues, and contribute positively to collaborative academic work.
  • A genuine commitment to fostering an inclusive, student-centred learning environment and to supporting the university's strategic objectives in teaching, research, and community engagement.
