Job Description

Role Overview

This position involves designing, planning, and delivering curriculum-studies programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, ensuring students meet academic milestones while supporting the institution’s enrolment and revenue goals. Day to day, you will prepare lectures, lead seminars and practical sessions, assess student work, and contribute to curriculum reviews—all while pursuing your own research agenda through proposals, publications, and conference presentations. Why this matters: your teaching and scholarship directly shape future educators and curriculum leaders, and your research outputs help the university strengthen its academic reputation and community impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions across assigned courses in curriculum studies, adapting content for different levels (undergraduate, postgraduate, and possibly diploma programmes).
  • Design new modules or entire courses from scratch when required, including writing syllabi, learning outcomes, reading lists, and assessment strategies.
  • Regularly review and update existing course materials to reflect current research, policy changes, and best practices in curriculum development.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum changes, programme accreditation, and the integration of research activities into teaching.
  • Develop and submit research grant proposals, manage approved projects, and ensure timely dissemination of findings through peer-reviewed journals, books, or creative works.
  • Present original research at national and international conferences, workshops, or symposia, and seek consultancies that link academic work to professional practice.
  • Mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students on academic progress, research projects, and career pathways; also advise junior staff as needed.
  • Undertake administrative tasks assigned by the Head of Department—such as serving on committees, contributing to quality assurance processes, or representing the department at outreach events.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A PhD in Curriculum Studies from a recognised or accredited university.
  • A Master’s degree in Curriculum Studies or a directly related field (e.g., Educational Curriculum & Instruction) from an accredited institution.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Curriculum Studies from a recognised university.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional body (where applicable for the discipline).
  • At least three years of post-qualification work experience in a university teaching or research setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in university-level teaching and research, including evidence of publications, conference presentations, or successful grant applications.
  • A clear commitment to high-quality teaching and to fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
