This position ensures that the institution’s teaching and research laboratories run smoothly, safely, and efficiently on a day-to-day basis. You will prepare lab spaces for practical sessions, maintain critical equipment, and directly support lecturers and students during experiments. Beyond operational tasks, you will also help shape lab manuals and enforce safety rules, making the role central to both academic quality and lab compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain clear, up‑to‑date documentation for all lab procedures, experimental protocols, and results records.
- Manage inventory of supplies, reagents, chemicals, and materials—handling ordering, receiving, and proper storage.
- Perform regular cleaning, calibration, and preventive maintenance on lab instruments to keep them in reliable working order.
- Conduct routine and specialised tests on samples, including chemical analyses, microbiological assays, and histological exams.
- Process, preserve, and store test samples according to established standard procedures.
- Assist lecturers by marking and grading students’ practical work reports and providing feedback on lab performance.
- Set up laboratory spaces before practical sessions, instruct and supervise students as they carry out experiments, and enforce lab use rules.
- Create and periodically review lab manuals, practical lesson instructions, and safety rules to align with curriculum updates.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by the supervisor to support lab operations or academic activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a directly related field from a recognised, accredited university.
- Must be a registered member of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) and hold a valid practising license.
- At least three years of relevant work experience in a similar laboratory role, preferably in an academic or diagnostic setting.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications (e.g., office suites, lab data management software).
- Hands‑on knowledge of lab safety protocols, equipment calibration, and quality control procedures.
- Strong attention to detail when handling samples, documentation, and inventory.
- Ability to work collaboratively with lecturers, students, and other technical staff.
What We Offer / Why Join
This role places you at the heart of a learning environment where you can directly influence the practical skills of future laboratory professionals. You will gain broad experience across equipment management, teaching support, and regulatory compliance—skills that are highly valued in both academic and clinical settings.
