Job Description

Role Overview

This Nursing Officer position is central to the day-to-day functioning of a fast-paced outpatient medical centre, where you will be the first point of contact for patients arriving with a wide range of needs. Your focus will be on rapid and accurate triage, safe delivery of maternal and child health services, family planning support, and skilled management of medical emergencies. By combining clinical precision with clear communication and meticulous documentation, you will directly influence patient safety, operational smoothness, and the overall reputation of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out complete patient assessments at the point of arrival, determining urgency and directing patients appropriately through the treatment pathway.
  • Deliver nursing interventions such as administering medications via intravenous and intramuscular routes, performing procedures, and supporting outpatient consultations according to approved protocols.
  • Manage a full range of maternal and child health and family planning services, including antenatal checks, postnatal support, immunisation assistance, and contraceptive counselling.
  • Take ownership of infection prevention and control across the facility, ensuring sterile supplies are correctly prepared, stored, and used for both routine and emergency procedures.
  • Document every patient interaction accurately in the electronic medical record system in real time, maintaining complete and legible clinical notes.
  • Compile and submit Ministry of Health reports punctually, ensuring all required statistical and clinical data is accurate and complete.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, preventive care, and follow-up expectations, always delivering information in a respectful and understandable way.
  • Collaborate with the nursing officer in charge and branch manager to identify workflow gaps, propose improvements, and support the implementation of updated clinical practices.
  • Act as a reliable team member who steps in when needed, supports colleagues, and upholds ethical and legal standards in all interactions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN) with an active practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is a strong plus.
  • At least two years of clinical experience in a high-volume healthcare setting such as a busy clinic, hospital, or maternal health unit.
  • Proven practical experience in maternal and child health and family planning services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Confident use of electronic health records, digital scheduling tools, and other healthcare software in daily documentation and reporting.
  • Demonstrated composure in emergency situations, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to evidence-based nursing practice.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role places you inside a medical system driven by clearly defined clinical protocols and a culture of continuous learning. You will have daily opportunities to sharpen your skills in triage, emergency response, and maternal health while working alongside a supportive clinical team that actively encourages professional development. If you are looking for a setting where your input on process improvement is genuinely valued and patient outcomes are the shared priority, this position provides that platform.
