Junior School Teacher – Creative Arts

Role Overview

This teaching position anchors the Junior School’s mission to educate the whole child through both academic achievement and personal growth. The Creative Arts Teacher will lead lively, hands-on classes in art, music, and drama for students aged 6–11, guiding each child to find their own creative voice and gain confidence in front of others. Day-to-day work involves preparing original lesson materials, adapting activities to mixed abilities, coordinating school showcases, and working closely with fellow teachers to make creativity a natural part of everyday learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver dynamic lessons in visual art, music, or drama that follow the school’s curriculum while leaving room for curiosity and playful discovery.
• Design original teaching resources and activities that encourage learners to explore new techniques and express their own ideas.
• Recognize and nurture each child’s unique talents, helping them set personal creative goals and take pride in their work.
• Vary instructional methods to support a wide range of learning styles, including kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learners.
• Partner with teachers across other subjects to build integrated projects that connect the arts to wider themes and knowledge.
• Organise student performances, art exhibitions, and drama presentations, handling logistics such as rehearsals, props, and invitations.
• Track each learner’s development through regular observation, constructive feedback, and individual consultations, intervening early when a student needs extra help.
• Foster a safe, welcoming classroom atmosphere where children feel comfortable taking artistic risks and supporting one another.
• Help learners see how creativity has shaped culture, history, and everyday life around the world.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Secondary Teacher Education with a subject specialization in art, music, or drama.
• At least two years of classroom teaching experience in a junior or primary school setting.
• Active registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of Kenya.
• A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the relevant authorities.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect with young learners, parents, and colleagues.
• Strong classroom management skills and genuine awareness of child care and safeguarding principles.
• Basic computer proficiency for preparing lesson plans, recording grades, and creating simple presentations.
• First aid certification is an added advantage.
