Job Description

Role Overview

This teaching position centres on delivering the Competency-Based Curriculum across three interconnected learning areas: Mathematics, Pre-Technical Studies, and Integrated Science. Day to day, you will design and run lessons that move beyond rote memorisation, guiding junior secondary learners through hands-on investigations, real-world problem-solving, and practical technical tasks. Your work directly shapes students' ability to think critically, apply knowledge in everyday contexts, and build the self-discipline and curiosity needed for lifelong learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver structured, engaging lesson plans and schemes of work that align with CBC expectations for Mathematics, Pre-Technical Studies, and Integrated Science.
  • Develop and continually update learning materials, assessments, and practical activities that challenge learners at different ability levels while keeping the whole class progressing.
  • Continuously evaluate learner performance through formal tests, informal observations, and project-based tasks, then provide constructive, actionable feedback that helps students improve.
  • Build and sustain a classroom atmosphere that is safe, inclusive, and respectful, where every learner feels valued and motivated to participate.
  • Integrate hands-on experiments, model-building, technology tools, and group projects to make abstract concepts in mathematics and science tangible and relevant to everyday life.
  • Keep meticulous, up-to-date records of attendance, grades, and individual progress, and prepare detailed academic reports for parents and school administration.
  • Model professional integrity, punctuality, and ethical behaviour, and consistently enforce school discipline policies in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Contribute beyond the classroom by supporting sports, clubs, academic competitions, and other school-wide activities that enrich the learner experience.
  • Work closely with fellow teachers, parents, and community members to identify learner needs early and respond with coordinated support strategies.
  • Take on leadership duties where assigned, including mentoring students, guiding departmental planning sessions, and helping drive continuous school improvement initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Education degree with a recognised teaching combination that includes Mathematics and/or Integrated Science and Pre-Technical Studies, or a closely related subject pairing approved by the Teachers Service Commission.
  • Full and active registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), with evidence of current teaching credentials.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience at junior secondary school level or within a comparable learning environment, with demonstrated success in learner outcomes.
  • Strong command of the Competency-Based Curriculum framework, including its assessment methods, learner-centred pedagogy, and competency grading approaches.
  • Practical ICT competence, including the ability to use digital tools, learning management platforms, and classroom technology to enhance instructional delivery and learner engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with students, colleagues, and parents from diverse backgrounds.
