Role Overview
This position sits within the Finance function and owns the accuracy of the company's inventory records across every storage location. Day to day, you will reconcile what the system says is on hand against what is physically in the warehouses, dig into the reasons behind any gaps, and translate those findings into reports that leadership and auditors can rely on. The work matters because inventory is one of the largest assets on the balance sheet, and the person in this seat is the first line of defence against shrinkage, misstatement, and slow-moving stock quietly draining working capital.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep inventory records complete and current for all company warehouses, ensuring every receipt, issue, transfer, and adjustment is captured accurately and on time.
- Run scheduled physical-to-system reconciliations and produce clear, well-structured inventory reports for finance and operational stakeholders.
- Plan and lead periodic full stock counts across all warehouse sites, coordinating logistics with warehouse staff and internal or external audit teams.
- Investigate stock variances, discrepancies, and unexplained consumption patterns as they arise, tracing root causes and driving them to resolution.
- Analyse inventory aging to flag obsolete, non-moving, and slow-moving items, and recommend practical write-down, disposal, or cost-reduction actions.
- Uphold internal financial controls, audit requirements, and inventory monitoring procedures, escalating any control weaknesses you identify.
- Work alongside finance, audit, and warehouse colleagues to streamline inventory workflows and strengthen the handoffs between physical operations and the ledger.
- Support audit engagements by preparing supporting schedules, documentation, and explanations for inventory balances and movements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
- Professional qualification: CPA (K) or ACCA, either fully qualified or at final stage.
- Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on work in inventory accounting, stock control, or audit.
- Industry background: Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is mandatory.
- Proven strength in inventory reconciliation and variance analysis, with the investigative mindset to chase anomalies to their source rather than simply recording them.
- Demonstrated integrity and high ethical standards in handling financial records and sensitive stock data.
- Confident user of ERP inventory modules, plus advanced Microsoft Excel skills for analysis and reporting.
- Strong problem-solving ability and the communication skills to challenge and align warehouse, audit, and finance teams.
