Role Overview

This full stack developer role sits within a distributed team that builds and maintains the digital tools underpinning the UN Development Coordination Office’s (DCO) work. Day to day, you will design and ship new features for the UN INFO suite, write automated tests, and support production applications—all using TypeScript, Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, Docker, and Azure. Your contributions directly help UN country teams coordinate development efforts more effectively, making this a hands-on position where code quality and collaboration matter.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and roll out new features and modules that respond to evolving business needs, following DCO’s established digital standards.
• Diagnose and resolve reported issues—both bug fixes and enhancement requests—from business stakeholders and users.
• Work across the entire stack (frontend, backend, database) using TypeScript, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL, and ensure code quality with comprehensive automated tests.
• Build and document public and private APIs that enable the UN INFO suite to integrate with other systems and external consumers.
• Evaluate existing applications for performance, scalability, security, and user experience improvements, then implement those enhancements.
• Create interactive data visualisations and dashboards that make UN INFO data insights clear and actionable.
• Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and team knowledge-sharing sessions with developers based remotely and in New York.
• Maintain clear technical documentation for both developers and application administrators, and provide hands-on support for user and data management issues.
• Leverage Azure cloud services and Docker to keep applications scalable, reliable, and secure.
• Assist with DevOps tasks—such as infrastructure configuration, maintenance, and support—for the systems powering DCO applications.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education and experience (one of the following):
• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in information technology, information systems, web development, database management, engineering, or a related field, plus at least five years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in one of the above fields, plus at least seven years of relevant experience.
• High school diploma (or equivalent), plus at least eleven years of relevant experience.
• Technical skills: Demonstrated full-stack development experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, Express, React, and PostgreSQL is required.
• DevOps & cloud: Hands-on familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure tools and environments.
• Version control & testing: Proficient with Git-based workflows (GitLab) and committed to writing thorough automated tests.
• Additional: Ability to work effectively in a distributed, multicultural team and to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written).
