Role Overview

This teaching position focuses on delivering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) within a collaborative, inquiry-driven classroom. Day to day, you will plan and adapt curriculum units alongside fellow educators, facilitate student-centred learning experiences, and assess progress to guide both instruction and communication with families. Your work directly supports the Academy’s commitment to holistic development and its core values, ensuring every child builds a strong academic and personal foundation.

Key Responsibilities

• Co-create and refine curriculum documentation that aligns with PYP standards and the Academy’s educational framework.
• Design and implement inquiry-based lessons that encourage critical thinking, curiosity, and active student participation.
• Differentiate instruction and learning activities to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and language needs.
• Conduct authentic, ongoing assessments to monitor student growth, maintain accurate records, and use data to shape future teaching.
• Communicate student progress, strengths, and areas for development clearly and sensitively with parents and guardians through reports, meetings, and informal updates.
• Manage classroom resources efficiently — sourcing materials, organising inventory, and ensuring proper maintenance of learning tools.
• Contribute to the wider life of the Junior School and Academy by participating in events, activities, and community initiatives outside regular school hours.
• Uphold and reinforce behaviour expectations outlined in the student handbook, promoting the school’s core values consistently throughout the day.
• Engage actively in the Appraisal for Growth process as part of the Academy’s professional learning community, reflecting on practice and setting development goals.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
• Valid TSC certificate, a B.Ed or M.Ed degree, or an internationally recognised teaching qualification.
• At least three years of classroom experience as a PYP teacher within an IB Primary Years Programme setting.
• Demonstrated ability to teach Kiswahili as a subject to primary-level students.
• Solid understanding of child development theories, developmentally appropriate practices, and how they inform lesson design and classroom management.
• Strong collaboration skills with a creative, adaptable, and reflective approach to problem-solving.
• Empathy and excellent verbal and written communication skills to build trust with students, colleagues, and families.
