Role Overview
This position focuses on the safe and efficient operation of forklifts and other material-handling equipment within a busy warehouse, production, and yard environment. Day-to-day tasks involve moving, stacking, loading, and unloading goods while strictly following safety protocols and operational procedures. The role is essential to ensuring smooth inbound and outbound logistics, internal stock transfers, and overall site material flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts to load, unload, transfer, stack, and retrieve materials in warehouse, production, and outdoor yard areas, ensuring loads are stable and correctly positioned.
- Assist with inbound deliveries by offloading goods carefully to prevent damage, and support outbound loading by verifying correct quantities, stacking, and securing loads.
- Execute internal stock movements between different zones, production lines, and storage locations as directed, placing materials into designated bin locations according to the warehouse layout.
- Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections of forklifts—checking brakes, forks, mast, hydraulics, tires, horn, and lights—and document findings daily.
- Report any equipment defects, unsafe conditions, near-misses, accidents, or damage immediately to the supervisor, and maintain safe distances from other personnel and machinery.
- Keep forklifts clean and properly fueled or charged, flagging early mechanical issues to the maintenance team to minimise downtime and support timely servicing.
- Maintain accurate forklift logs, inspection checklists, and movement records, and handle delivery notes, dispatch documents, and internal transfer forms correctly to support traceability.
- Work collaboratively with warehouse, production, and logistics teams to meet daily operational targets, and adapt flexibly to changing priorities as directed by supervisors.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in logistics, warehousing, or occupational safety is a plus.
- At least three years of proven experience operating forklifts in a warehouse, production, or logistics setting.
- Valid forklift operator license or certificate from a recognised training provider.
- Experience handling various load types such as palletised, bulk, fragile, or oversized items safely.
- Familiarity with warehouse layouts, material flow patterns, and storage procedures; experience with ERP or warehouse management systems is advantageous.
- Solid understanding of forklift safety principles, load handling limits, and site traffic rules.
- Ability to perform and document daily equipment inspections.
- Commitment to following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety standards rigorously.
