Job Description

Role Overview

This position anchors the branch’s day-to-day financial and stock integrity by making sure every item on the shelf and every shilling in the till is accounted for. You will split your time between the stockroom—receiving, organising, and counting inventory—and the cash office, where you will reconcile daily sales, prepare bank deposits, and verify floats. Your accuracy directly protects the branch from shrinkage and keeps management reporting reliable, so your work matters beyond the back office: it gives store leadership a true picture of performance and loss.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming deliveries against purchase orders, inspect quantities and condition, and update the inventory system immediately to prevent discrepancies.
  • Pick, rotate, and issue stock strictly on a first-in, first-out basis so older products move before newer stock and expiry risk is minimised.
  • Perform scheduled and ad-hoc cycle counts across product categories, investigate root causes of any count variances, and document waste, damage, or near-expiry items with clear justification.
  • Reconcile cash registers at the end of each shift or day by comparing recorded sales against physical cash, identifying shortages or overages, and preparing bank lodgements.
  • Check and issue petty cash floats daily, verifying that each till starts with the correct denomination mix and ends with acceptable variance levels.
  • Maintain organised documentation for stock movements, transfer notes, cash-up sheets, and exception reports so that audits and supervisor reviews can trace every transaction.
  • Flag recurring stock or cash discrepancies to the branch manager and suggest practical controls to prevent repeat issues.
  • Support periodic full stocktakes and assist with month-end inventory reconciliation by preparing accurate count sheets and variance summaries.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in stock control, cashiering, or a similar operational role; recent graduates with internship exposure are welcome.
  • CPA Section 2 or an equivalent accounting qualification that demonstrates a working grasp of financial records and reconciliation principles.
  • A degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Supply Chain, or a related field is an added advantage but not strictly required for candidates with strong practical aptitude.
  • Comfort with basic arithmetic and data entry, including the ability to spot mismatches quickly and trace them logically.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, since you will need to explain variances to supervisors and coordinate with delivery personnel and sales staff.
  • High attention to detail in counting, recording, and handling cash, even under busy periods or during promotional surges.
  • A positive, learning-oriented attitude—willingness to follow established procedures closely while seeking to understand why they exist.
  • Basic computer literacy, including spreadsheets and inventory or point-of-sale systems, with a readiness to learn the branch’s specific software.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role is an excellent entry point for a recent graduate or early-career finance professional who wants hands-on exposure to real inventory and cash control processes rather than a classroom-only view of accounting. You will build fundamental reconciliation and stock-management instincts that translate directly into more senior finance, auditing, or supply-chain roles. Working at branch level means your contributions are visible daily, and you will receive direct feedback from experienced supervisors who can help you close the gap between academic knowledge and operational practice.
