Job Summary

We are seeking a strategically minded, commercially astute Finance & Procurement Manager to provide comprehensive financial leadership, administrative oversight, and supply chain governance for our global law firm. Your primary focus will be to champion the firm’s accounting pipelines, strengthen internal control frameworks, optimize daily cash flows, and maximize matter-level profitability. This senior position bridges rigorous fiscal engineering with proactive operational management; you will spearhead aggressive billing and physical debtor collection protocols, direct long-range forecasting models, and institute cost-effective, transparent procurement cycles. The role demands an independent, target-driven corporate leader who possesses exceptional compliance acuity, deep statutory tax knowledge, and a proven track record of managing high-performance teams within a fast-paced professional services domain.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Executive Analytics

  • Partner closely with the Managing Partner to architect, calibrate, and implement sustainable financial strategies that support the firm’s regional growth and commercial targets.
  • Synthesize raw operational data into detailed monthly management accounts, variance reports, and expenditure analyses, delivering actionable data to mitigate corporate risk.
  • Construct advanced financial modeling architectures, multi-department budgets, and rolling cash-flow forecasts to guide capital allocation.
  • Evaluate matter-level profitability, unbilled fees, ongoing work-in-progress (WIP), and advocate utilization metrics to uncover operational leaks.

Accounting Control & Cash Optimization

  • Command all day-to-day accounting workflows, including general ledger maintenance, payroll pipelines, accounts payable/receivable, and multi-bank reconciliations.
  • Drive the firm’s strict billing and collection protocol, orchestrating direct physical follow-ups and high-level client meetings to clear aging arrears.
  • Oversee meticulous debtor aging records, enforcing structured collection timelines, documented payment commitments, and legal retainer balancing.
  • Monitor all corporate expenditure channels, verifying that every single transaction is fully authorized, adequately backed by receipts, and budgeted.

Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Governance

  • Govern the full end-to-end procurement cycle, implementing rigorous quotation analysis, transparent vendor due diligence, and aggressive price negotiations.
  • Shield the firm against structural leakage and conflicts of interest by keeping all procurement paths competitive, auditable, and clearly documented.
  • Author, review, and roll out standardized procurement, expense management, asset preservation, and office administration policies.
  • Oversee updated vendor contracts, active service level agreements (SLAs), and a comprehensive fixed asset register, checking vendor delivery speeds.

Compliance, Auditing & Team Leadership

  • Ensure total, uncompromised compliance with all KRA tax frameworks, statutory filings, and legal industry regulatory accounting demands.
  • Coordinate the firm’s external audit schedule, serving as the primary point of contact for tax consultants, banking partners, and state regulators.
  • Lead, mentor, and audit the daily performance of the finance and procurement team, assigning clear operational KPIs and keeping errors down.
  • Take absolute corporate ownership of the department, resolving complex operational friction or escalating systemic matters to the Managing Partner.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Entry Criteria

  • Academic Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or an equivalent corporate finance field, achieving at least a Second-Class Honours, Upper Division. Minimum KCSE grade of B (or its equivalent block).
  • Professional Licensing: Full CPA(K) or ACCA qualification with active standing in a recognized national professional accounting body.
  • Industry Longevity: At least 6 years of progressive, hands-on corporate accounting and finance experience, with a minimum of 3 years explicitly spent running teams in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Domain Exposure: Prior experience navigating the financial pipelines of a law firm, corporate advisory, or premium professional services outfit is a highly distinct competitive advantage.
  • Software Mastery: Deep technical literacy in automated accounting software systems, ERP platforms, and advanced Microsoft Excel modeling functions.

Personal & Behavioral Traits

  • Autonomous Drive: An exceptionally proactive leader possessing a deep sense of ownership, capable of isolating operational threats and acting without constant oversight.
  • Relational Influence: Highly sophisticated communication and stakeholder-management capabilities, comfortable handling complex collection conversations with premium clients.
  • Uncompromising Ethics: Absolute professional independence, sound corporate judgment, and a strict commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.

What We Offer

  • Elite Legal Network Exposure: Drive the financial machinery of a globally connected law firm, sharpening your skills against complex, cross-border professional service metrics.
  • Operational Autonomy: Enjoy the organizational mandate to restructure, optimize, and digitize the firm’s financial controls, supply frameworks, and procurement procedures.
  • C-Suite Career Trajectory: Work side-by-side with the Managing Partner, gaining the strategic business exposure necessary to transition into broad Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or Chief Operating Officer (COO) landscapes.
