Role Overview
This position sits within the finance function of a regulated financial institution and is central to keeping daily accounting operations accurate, compliant, and efficient. You will handle reconciliations, process payments, prepare management reports, contribute to budgeting, and support the institution’s long-term strategic planning—giving leadership the reliable financial information they need to make sound decisions. The role reports to the Head of Finance & Strategy and requires a solid grounding in IFRS, tax compliance, and financial controls within a banking or microfinance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial schedules, and variance analyses for review by management and the board.
- Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, suspense accounts, and control accounts, promptly resolving discrepancies and aged items.
- Process supplier invoices, staff expense claims, and customer-related transactions in line with approved delegation of authority and internal policies.
- Support annual budget preparation, periodic forecasting, and monitoring of actual performance against approved budgets.
- Track the Bank’s Strategic Plan 2026–2030 by updating initiative milestones, KPIs, and departmental progress reports.
- Prepare and submit tax returns, statutory deductions, and regulatory financial returns within required deadlines.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closure, including accruals, prepayments, provisions, and audit-ready schedules.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, review branch and head office transactions, and support process automation and control improvements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field from a recognized university.
- CPA(K) or equivalent professional accounting qualification; full certification is an added advantage.
- ICPAK membership or eligibility for membership with a recognized professional accounting body.
- At least 3–5 years of relevant finance or accounting experience, ideally within a bank, microfinance institution, SACCO, or comparable regulated financial entity.
- Proven hands-on experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, taxation, budgeting, accounts payable, and general ledger management.
- Working knowledge of IFRS, tax laws, internal controls, and regulatory reporting standards.
- Familiarity with core banking systems, ERP platforms, and financial reporting tools.
- Advanced Excel skills and solid data analysis capabilities.
