Job Description

Role Overview

This position places you at the financial helm of a well-established hospital in Embu, where your decisions will directly influence both day-to-day operations and long-term institutional resilience. You will spend your time shaping budgets, steering cash flow, ensuring compliance with Kenyan tax and reporting standards, and guiding a finance team that supports clinical and administrative leaders with accurate, actionable data. Your work matters because a financially healthy hospital can invest in better equipment, retain skilled staff, and deliver consistent care to the community it serves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the preparation of IFRS-compliant financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, presenting them to executive leadership with clear commentary on performance drivers.
  • Lead the annual budgeting cycle by collaborating with department heads to set realistic targets, then tracking actual performance against those targets to identify corrective actions early.
  • Oversee working capital by managing patient billing, insurance claim follow-ups, supplier payments, and daily cash position to prevent liquidity gaps that could disrupt hospital operations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of all statutory obligations, including VAT, PAYE, and corporate tax, while staying current on changes to Kenyan tax legislation affecting healthcare providers.
  • Build financial models and feasibility analyses for proposed medical projects, equipment purchases, and service line expansions so leadership can make data-driven investment decisions.
  • Coordinate internal and external audit workflows, ensuring that documentation, reconciliations, and control evidence are always ready for examination.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate finance and accounting staff, fostering a culture of precision and continuous improvement across the department.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial ERP systems by overseeing data input standards, user access controls, security protocols, and process automation improvements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related business discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Mandatory CPA (K) certification; any additional qualifications such as MBA or ACCA will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in senior financial management, with direct exposure to hospital or healthcare sector finances being strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Kenyan tax compliance, IFRS reporting standards, and medical reimbursement or insurance claim processes.
  • Strong leadership track record in managing finance teams and cross-functional collaboration with clinical and administrative stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP platforms, financial modelling tools, and data analysis to translate raw numbers into strategic insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of explaining complex financial matters to non-financial audiences such as medical staff and board members.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role comes with an attractive remuneration package commensurate with experience, reflecting the seniority and impact of the position. You will work on-site in Embu, Kenya, within a healthcare institution that offers meaningful challenges and the opportunity to shape financial strategy in a sector where stability directly translates into better patient outcomes.
