Job Description

Role Overview

This position is all about keeping students healthy and safe at a private school along the Magadi Road corridor in Karen. You will manage the school’s medical room on a daily basis, from welcoming sick or injured students and assessing their needs, to giving first aid, arranging follow-up care, and keeping medical supplies ready for use. The role reports to the school administration and the doctor on duty, and your clinical judgement will help ensure that small health concerns are handled quickly while more serious cases are escalated to the right professional without delay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out triage and clinical checks on students who come into the clinic, recording symptoms, vital signs, and any relevant medical history before deciding on the right course of action.
  • Give prescribed medication and treatments accurately, calculate correct dosages by age and weight, and document every administration in the student’s treatment log.
  • Respond to injuries and sudden illnesses during school hours, including at sports sessions and campus events, providing emergency first aid and stabilising students until further medical support arrives.
  • Liaise with the doctor on duty for complicated cases, specialist referrals, or any situation that requires paediatric expertise beyond the clinic’s immediate capacity.
  • Monitor students who are resting in the sickbay, track their recovery, and keep parents or guardians informed about their condition and any recommended follow-up steps.
  • Keep complete and confidential records for every student, including health profiles, allergy lists, treatment histories, and consultation notes, using both paper and digital systems.
  • Manage the clinic’s medical inventory by checking stock levels, watching for expired medications, restocking first aid boxes, and ordering new supplies before they run out.
  • Supervise auxiliary clinic staff and maintain strict cleanliness in the sickbay, sterilising tools and examination surfaces so that the facility meets national school health standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree from a recognised university.
  • Active registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya and a valid practising licence that is up to date.
  • A minimum of three years of hands-on nursing experience, preferably in a hospital, children’s clinic, school health centre, or similar institutional setting.
  • Current certification in First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), or Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is strongly preferred.
  • Sound clinical assessment skills and the ability to stay calm when deciding whether a child needs home care, clinic observation, or urgent referral.
  • A warm, patient communication style that works well with children, teenagers, school staff, and parents, especially when explaining medical information.
  • High levels of professionalism and respect for patient confidentiality, with a clear commitment to ethical nursing practice.
  • Female applicants aged between 25 and 38 years are preferred, in line with the institution’s caregiving arrangement.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • A full-time, on-site nursing role based at a well-established school in the Karen / Magadi Road area.
  • A competitive monthly salary ranging from KSh 30,000 to KSh 35,000.
  • A work schedule that follows the school calendar, allowing you to build meaningful, long-term relationships with the students and families you care for.
  • Convenient access for nurses who live around Karen, Lang’ata, Ongata Rongai, or anywhere along the Magadi Road corridor.
