Role Overview
This is a hands-on position on a poultry farm, where you will carry out daily care routines for the birds while maintaining high standards of hygiene and biosecurity. Your consistent attention to feeding, watering, and monitoring flock health directly supports the farm's productivity and animal welfare goals. You will work as part of a small team, rotating through tasks that require physical stamina and a reliable, observant attitude.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense feed at scheduled times and ensure feeders are properly maintained and stocked throughout the day.
- Check water lines and drinkers to guarantee a clean, uninterrupted water supply for all birds.
- Clean and disinfect poultry houses, flooring, and equipment between flocks and during routine operations.
- Remove and properly dispose of manure and litter, following farm protocols for waste management.
- Observe birds for signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behavior, and report concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Assist with administering vaccines and medications, either by water, spray, or individual handling as directed.
- Handle birds calmly and correctly during catching, moving, or loading to minimise stress and injury.
- Record daily data such as feed and water consumption, mortalities, and temperature, and note any equipment issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
- A certificate in Agriculture is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience working on a poultry farm is a distinct advantage.
- Comfortable and skilled in handling birds, with knowledge of basic animal welfare practices.
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic and keep accurate written records of farm activities.
- Physically fit to stand, walk, lift, bend, and work in a hot or dusty environment for extended periods.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, as the farm schedule requires.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow biosecurity and safety rules without shortcuts.
