Job Description

Role Overview

This role centres on teaching the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in one of three core subjects — English, Kiswahili, or Mathematics — within a Kenyan primary or secondary school setting. On a typical day, you will prepare and deliver interactive lessons, evaluate learner progress against CBC benchmarks, and adapt your teaching to accommodate different learning paces. Your work directly shapes how students develop critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving abilities, making you a key contributor to the school’s academic and character-building goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, learner-centred lessons in your specialised subject that align with the CBC design and its core competencies.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student understanding, track individual progress, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Integrate ICT tools, group work, and practical activities to make abstract concepts accessible and relevant to real-life situations.
  • Maintain a well-managed classroom environment that encourages active participation, mutual respect, and positive discipline.
  • Identify learners who require extra support or enrichment and provide targeted interventions or differentiated tasks.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student performance, behaviour, and development.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, staff meetings, and professional development sessions focused on CBC implementation.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, grades, and observational notes to support continuous learner evaluation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education, with a recognized teaching specialisation in English, Kiswahili, or Mathematics.
  • A minimum of four years of teaching experience, ideally within an active classroom setting.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), including its assessment rubrics and learning approaches.
  • Proven classroom management skills that foster a safe, orderly, and motivating learning atmosphere.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to engage learners, parents, and colleagues effectively.
  • Practical techniques for engaging diverse learners, including those with varying academic abilities and learning styles.
