Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the hands-on technical backbone of our solar installation and service team, working across rooftops and commercial sites to bring photovoltaic systems online and keep them running at peak performance. Your days will mix new build-outs—mounting panels, running conduit, terminating inverter connections—with service calls that demand sharp diagnostic thinking when generation drops or alarms trip. This role matters because every correctly torqued lug and properly tested circuit you complete directly determines whether a customer meets their energy yield targets and stays safe for decades to come.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install racking, solar modules, inverters, DC/AC disconnects, and battery banks on residential rooftops and commercial ground-mount systems, following stamped plans and manufacturer specifications.
  • Run, label, and terminate wiring in conduit and cable trays, ensuring proper ampacity, grounding, and torque values at every connection point.
  • Commission new systems by verifying polarity, measuring open-circuit voltage, checking inverter startup sequences, and confirming grid interconnection parameters.
  • Diagnose and repair underperforming or faulted systems using multimeters, I-V curve tracers, thermal cameras, and inverter monitoring platforms.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance—cleaning modules, re-torquing fasteners, replacing worn fuses, and updating firmware on smart inverters and battery management systems.
  • Document every task with detailed service reports, photos of completed work, equipment serial numbers, and material usage logs.
  • Coordinate with site owners and project managers to communicate technical findings, safety hazards, and recommended upgrades in plain language.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a completed electrical trade apprenticeship—or an equivalent combination of formal training and field experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on electrical installation work; direct experience with solar PV, inverters, or battery storage systems is strongly preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, grounding and bonding practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements for energized work.
  • Comfort using electrical testing equipment, reading single-line diagrams, and interpreting troubleshooting flowcharts without constant supervision.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work on sloped roofs with fall protection, and tolerate heat, cold, and confined crawl spaces for extended periods.
  • Reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and a willingness to travel to multiple job sites throughout the week.
