Role Overview
This role at Machakos Institute of Technology centres on training students in both theoretical and practical aspects of electrical and electronic systems. Day-to-day work involves delivering classroom sessions, running supervised lab exercises, and supporting learners through assessments and project work. The position is essential for producing competent graduates who meet the demands of Kenya’s technical and industrial workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging lectures and guided practical sessions on electrical circuit theory, power systems, electronics, and related topics.
- Prepare comprehensive schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning materials in line with the institute’s academic calendar.
- Design, administer, and mark examinations, maintaining clear records of learner progress and performance.
- Supervise student projects, offering technical guidance from initial concept through final implementation and presentation.
- Enforce workshop safety standards, ensuring all equipment is properly used, maintained, and reported for servicing when needed.
- Regularly update course content and teaching approaches to reflect current industry practices and emerging technologies.
- Participate in departmental planning sessions and contribute to ongoing quality improvement of the electrical engineering programme.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or Bachelor of Education Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in a technical or vocational training setting.
- Excellent communication skills with a strong command of written and spoken English.
- Demonstrated ability to manage classrooms, laboratories, and diverse groups of learners effectively.
- A Diploma in Technical Education from Kenya School of TVET is an added advantage.
