Role Overview
This position places you at the core of a multidisciplinary consultancy, where you will take full ownership of the electrical building services package — from the first conceptual sketch through to detailed design, tender, and on-site supervision. Your daily work involves translating client and architectural requirements into safe, code-compliant electrical systems: power distribution, lighting, containment, earthing, and life-safety installations. The quality of your drawings, specifications, and site decisions directly shapes how well building projects are delivered, so your technical judgment and coordination skills will be continuously exercised alongside other engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual, schematic, and detailed electrical designs for building services, covering power distribution, lighting, earthing and bonding, small power, containment, and fire detection systems.
- Produce and coordinate technical drawings in AutoCAD, working closely with architectural, structural, and mechanical teams to resolve clashes and maintain design integration across the project.
- Run lighting design and photometric studies using DIALux or Relux, preparing layouts and calculations that demonstrate compliance with both energy-efficiency targets and lighting standards.
- Prepare complete tender documentation — specifications, schedules of works, bills of quantities, and drawings — and participate in the technical evaluation of contractor submissions.
- Supervise construction works on site, reviewing contractor shop drawings, responding to technical queries, witnessing testing and commissioning, and ensuring installations match the approved design and applicable regulations.
- Conduct site surveys and feasibility investigations, collecting data needed for design inputs, plant sizing, and cable/fault-level calculations.
- Verify that all designs comply with relevant Kenyan and international codes, including IEE/BS 7671 wiring regulations, KEBS/KS and IEC standards, and NFPA fire and life-safety requirements.
- Support the preparation of project reports, design reviews, and meeting minutes, and present technical solutions to clients and stakeholders as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from a recognised university.
- 5–8 years of post-graduation experience specifically in electrical building services design, tender documentation, and construction supervision.
- Registered as a Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), with a logged experience record that already supports progression toward Professional Engineer registration.
- Demonstrable project portfolio spanning residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial developments, as well as infrastructure and renewable energy installations.
- Hands-on command of IEE/BS 7671, KEBS/KS, IEC, and NFPA codes, and the ability to apply them practically in design and site contexts.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for production of technical drawings, plus working competence in DIALux or Relux for lighting design and photometric analysis.
- Prior experience operating within a consulting engineering environment, where working to deadlines, maintaining quality standards, and coordinating with multiple disciplines is part of everyday practice.
