Education Technical Assistant

Role Overview

This field-based education role supports the Better Learning Programme (BLP) Officer in delivering accelerated learning and psychosocial support to refugee and host-community children. You will coordinate daily activities in schools and community learning centres, linking teachers, parents, and community facilitators to ensure vulnerable learners stay engaged and protected. Your work directly influences whether out-of-school children re-enter learning and whether existing learners can apply the resilience skills taught through the BLP curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead community mobilisation and awareness campaigns for Accelerated Education Programme (AEP) and Better Learning Programme (BLP) activities, including registering out-of-school children and youth for enrolment.
• Develop and maintain detailed work plans that help teachers sequence lessons, allocate time, and prepare materials ahead of each education cycle.
• Observe classroom delivery and coach facilitators to use learner-friendly, participatory methods consistent with the BLP psychosocial curriculum.
• Track curriculum coverage against the project timeline, identifying delays and recommending corrective actions to the Education Technical Officer.
• Strengthen school safety by working with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and children’s groups to identify and respond to protection concerns.
• Coordinate BLP community facilitators to ensure attendance records, assessment data, and case notes are collected regularly, stored securely, and reported on time.
• Distribute teaching and learning materials to schools and centres, maintaining transparent inventory and distribution logs.
• Submit monthly progress reports to the Education Technical Officer, highlighting achievements, challenges, and community feedback.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Kenyan citizenship is required.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in education from an accredited institution.
• Formal training in psychosocial support (PSS) approaches for children, with demonstrated ability to apply these methods in classroom and community settings.
• At least five years of teaching experience, preferably including work with displaced or crisis-affected learners.
• Proven experience identifying and addressing child protection issues in schools, including collaboration with PTAs and child-led committees.
• Experience supporting learners with disabilities or specialist training in special needs education.
• Prior work in humanitarian, recovery, or complex emergency contexts, showing adaptability to volatile environments.
• Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity when engaging with refugee and host communities.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Professional proficiency in English and Swahili. Knowledge of Turkana is an added advantage.
