Role Overview
The Driver keeps YAA's people and programmes moving, handling day-to-day transport for staff and authorised passengers travelling to meetings, programme activities and field engagements. Much of the work happens behind the wheel in Nairobi and on routes across Kenya, so road discipline, punctuality and a well-cared-for vehicle directly affect whether the organisation delivers on its commitments on time. It is a hands-on position that pairs safe driving with routine vehicle care, accurate record keeping and practical logistics support.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport staff, visitors and other approved passengers to meetings, programme sites and field locations safely and on schedule.
- Operate assigned vehicles in full compliance with Kenyan traffic law and road safety regulations, maintaining a clean and responsible driving record at all times.
- Carry out pre-trip and routine checks on the vehicle, identifying and promptly reporting mechanical, electrical or safety faults.
- Keep the vehicle clean, secure and in good working order, including monitoring fuel and fluid levels and arranging refuelling as required.
- Maintain accurate logbooks covering journeys, mileage, fuel consumption and other trip information.
- Track vehicle documentation such as insurance, inspection and other statutory certificates, and flag upcoming renewals to the supervisor in good time.
- Coordinate with the supervisor on routine servicing and repairs, following up until the work is completed.
- Report accidents, incidents, breakdowns or other vehicle issues immediately, and support additional transport and logistics duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- A valid Kenyan driving licence, Class B, with authorisation to drive the vehicle assigned by YAA.
- At least five years of active driving experience, including demonstrated hands-on experience with manual transmission vehicles.
- A valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
- A clean and responsible driving history.
- A defensive driving certificate is an added advantage.
- Solid working knowledge of Nairobi and the main roads and routes across Kenya.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to identify and report common mechanical or safety issues.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with staff, passengers and service providers.
