About the Role
Our client is a dynamic Christian‑based non‑profit institution committed to quality education and community development. The school seeks a Deputy Headteacher to provide strong leadership in academics, operations, and student welfare while supporting the Principal in building a Christ‑centered, disciplined, and high‑achieving learning environment.
This is a leadership position that combines management, teaching, and pastoral care, ideal for an experienced educator with a passion for holistic child development and school‑based leadership.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative & Operational Leadership

Deputise the Principal and assume full responsibility during their absence.

Oversee day‑to‑day school operations to ensure smooth running and adherence to policies.

Prepare and manage staff duty rosters, attendance records, and movement registers.

Maintain accurate records for learners and staff, including admissions, attendance, and discipline cases.

Ensure the safety, security, and wellbeing of learners, staff, and school property.

Supervise school facilities, equipment, and infrastructure to support a clean, safe, and conducive learning space.
Academic & Curriculum Oversight
-
Ensure full and effective implementation of the Competency‑Based Curriculum (CBC) in line with national standards.

Monitor syllabus coverage and maintain high academic standards across all subjects.

Coordinate internal examinations and guide the analysis of results for school‑based improvement.

Plan and implement instructional programmes and academic calendars.

Source, manage, and distribute teaching and learning materials.

Review and improve the quality of teaching resources and support tools.

Participate in the appraisal of senior teachers and other staff in collaboration with the Principal.

Take assigned teaching duties according to specialization and timetable.

Initiate and support innovations in teaching and learning practice.
Student Discipline, Welfare & Pastoral Care
-
Maintain discipline and a positive, orderly school climate for learners and staff.

Chair or support the Disciplinary Committee and handle learner behaviour issues fairly and professionally.

Promote holistic learner welfare, including psychosocial support and safeguarding.

Monitor learner attendance and coordinate follow‑up for absent pupils.

Offer guidance, counselling, and spiritual mentorship in line with Christian values.
Staff Leadership & Development
-
Support, supervise, and mentor teaching and non‑teaching staff.

Coordinate professional development, training, and capacity‑building activities.
-
Foster teamwork, accountability, excellence, and a “servant leadership” culture.

Assist in staff performance management, including appraisal and feedback processes.
Parent & Community Engagement
-
Organise and lead parents’ meetings and school engagement events.
-
Build and strengthen relationships between the school and the wider community.

Represent the school on education and community platforms when required.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
-
P1 Certificate or Diploma in ECDE (Early Childhood Development Education).

Valid Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Registration Certificate.
-
Bachelor’s degree in education (Primary or ECDE) is an added advantage.

At least 5 years of teaching experience.

Either:

At least 3 years as a Senior Teacher, or
-
At least 2 years as a Deputy Principal or in a similar leadership role.

Ability to teach Lower Primary classes is an added advantage.
