Role Overview
This position places you at the heart of a fast-paced dental practice, where you will manage a diverse patient caseload ranging from routine check-ups to urgent interventions. Your clinical judgment and steady hands will directly influence patient comfort and long-term oral health outcomes, as you balance efficient treatment delivery with compassionate, individualized care in a resource-equipped facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough oral examinations, interpret diagnostic radiographs, and formulate evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient's clinical needs and history.
- Perform restorative procedures including fillings, crowns, bridges, and inlays, while ensuring precise fit and natural aesthetics.
- Carry out surgical extractions, minor oral surgeries, and management of dental emergencies such as abscesses, trauma, and severe pain.
- Administer local anesthesia safely and monitor patients throughout procedures, maintaining accurate sedation and dosage records where applicable.
- Deliver preventive care services, including scaling and polishing, fluoride applications, and patient education on oral hygiene and dietary habits.
- Maintain meticulous patient records, documenting diagnoses, treatment provided, and follow-up plans in compliance with clinic protocols and legal standards.
- Sterilize instruments and adhere to strict infection-control procedures, ensuring a safe environment for both patients and support staff.
- Collaborate with dental hygienists, nurses, and front-office teams to streamline appointment scheduling, treatment coordination, and patient follow-ups.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or an equivalent dental degree obtained from a recognized, accredited university.
- Full and unrestricted registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), accompanied by a valid annual practice license.
- At least two to three years of hands-on clinical dentistry experience after completing internship, preferably within a high-volume hospital, polyclinic, or established private practice.
- Proficiency in performing a broad spectrum of general dental procedures independently, from simple restorations to complex extractions.
- Working knowledge of dental radiography techniques and the ability to accurately interpret X-ray images for diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Strong communication skills in English and Kiswahili to explain procedures and post-operative care to patients of varying educational backgrounds.
- A calm, composed demeanor when handling anxious patients or managing dental emergencies under time pressure.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development, staying current with modern dental materials, equipment, and clinical guidelines.
