Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on programme role for someone who enjoys spending as much time in the field with communities as at a desk writing reports. You will design, deliver and monitor community-based development programmes, hold together partnerships with county government departments, civil society and the private sector, and make sure that every activity meets child and youth safeguarding standards. The work matters because it turns organisational strategy into measurable change for children, young people and the households around them — and because partner trust, donor confidence and community ownership all depend on how well this role is executed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and roll out programme activities across assigned counties, translating work plans into practical field schedules and delivering against agreed targets and timelines.
  • Conceptualise and innovate new programme approaches, piloting ideas that respond to locally identified needs and can be scaled or replicated.
  • Build and sustain long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with community structures, relevant state departments, civil society organisations and corporate partners.
  • Ensure full compliance with Child & Youth Safeguarding guidelines across all activities, partners, volunteers and implementing teams, including reporting and follow-up on any concerns.
  • Prepare and monitor activity budgets, track expenditure, and produce accurate financial and programmatic reports for internal and donor audiences.
  • Collect, analyse and document programme data, drawing out lessons learned and feeding evidence back into planning and decision-making.
  • Facilitate trainings, community meetings and stakeholder workshops, and represent the organisation at county and partner forums.
  • Coordinate with colleagues, partners and community focal points to keep activities on schedule and resolve field-level challenges quickly.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Development Studies, Project Management, Community Development Studies or a related social science discipline.
  • At least three years of working experience, preferably within an NGO setting.
  • Solid knowledge of, and practical experience applying, Child & Youth Safeguarding guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualise, innovate and manage programmes from design through to reporting.
  • Proven track record of cultivating long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with local communities, key state departments, CSOs and corporate organisations.
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets and producing financial reports.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, presentation and representation skills, with the confidence to engage people from all backgrounds and inspire them to participate.
  • Good organisational, analytical and programmatic reporting abilities, plus proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and in working with databases.
  • Ability to prioritise, plan and execute under pressure, multi-task, make decisions, and take accountability for results and the achievement of objectives.
  • Enthusiastic, decisive, pragmatic and dynamic, with a hands-on approach, a sense of urgency, and close attention to detail.
  • A valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued within the last six months.

Added advantage: For positions based in Bungoma, Turkana and Kilifi Counties, female candidates and candidates who speak the local dialect are encouraged to apply.

How to apply: Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, academic and professional certificates, and three professional references as a single PDF document to [email protected] no later than 15th October 2026 at 5:00pm.
