Job Description

Role Overview

This position focuses on delivering preventive and curative oral health services within community settings. Day-to-day tasks include conducting dental screenings, performing cleanings, and educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices. The role is essential to reducing oral disease prevalence and promoting overall wellness in the populations served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive oral health assessments, including charting, scaling, and polishing, according to established clinical protocols.
  • Develop and implement individualised oral care plans for patients, emphasising prevention and early intervention.
  • Carry out restorative procedures such as fluoride application, sealants, and temporary fillings under supervision where required.
  • Educate patients and community groups on diet, brushing techniques, and the importance of regular dental visits.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, treatment notes, and referral documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Sterilise and maintain dental instruments and equipment in line with infection control and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with dentists, nurses, and public health officers to coordinate comprehensive care and outreach programmes.
  • Participate in continuous professional development activities to stay current with best practices in dental hygiene and oral health.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Community Oral Health from a recognised institution.
  • Valid and current registration with the Oral Health Association of Kenya (OHAK) or the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Minimum of two years of hands-on experience in a clinical or community oral health setting.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and electronic patient management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain oral health concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong clinical knowledge of dental hygiene procedures, oral pathology, and preventive care techniques.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities in managing patient care and clinical workflows.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and adherence to regulatory and oral safety standards.
