Role Overview

This is a hospital-based general dentistry position for a clinician who wants more than a routine chairside job. You will handle everything from same-day emergency treatments to advanced implant planning, while also mentoring auxiliary staff and helping refine the department’s clinical standards. The role matters because you are not just treating teeth — you are the bridge between patients with complex needs and the wider specialist network that supports their full recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive oral examinations and diagnose a broad spectrum of conditions, including acute infections, periodontal disease, and structural tooth damage.
• Deliver restorative and surgical treatments, from fillings and extractions to implant placement and pre-surgical assessment.
• Build structured, phased treatment plans for complex cases, coordinating with consultants on referrals, biopsies, and hospital-based procedures.
• Translate clinical findings into clear, practical oral-health guidance so patients understand their condition, their options, and how to prevent recurrence.
• Document every consultation and procedure in the electronic health record system with precision, ensuring continuity of care across shifts and specialties.
• Supervise dental nurses and junior auxiliary staff, offering real-time coaching on instrument handling, sterilisation workflows, and patient communication.
• Monitor the upkeep of dental chairs, imaging units, and surgical instruments, checking that all equipment meets safety and infection-control protocols.
• Contribute to the development of clinic policies, patient-care pathways, and quality-improvement initiatives within the hospital dental unit.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Dental Surgery or an equivalent dental degree recognised by the relevant health authority.
• Full, unrestricted registration with the Medical Practitioners & Dentists Council, plus a valid private practising licence.
• At least two to three years of post-internship experience working independently in general dentistry.
• Demonstrated clinical competence in managing orofacial pain and oral medicine presentations.
• Preferred certification in advanced life support courses such as ACLS or ATLS.
• Strong manual dexterity, sharp diagnostic judgement, and the ability to stay composed under clinical pressure.
• A patient-first mindset — someone who listens, explains, and treats people with genuine empathy rather than just processing cases.
