Job Description

Role Overview

As a Community Oral Health professional, you will provide preventive and therapeutic dental care to patients across all age groups, performing daily clinical procedures such as scaling, polishing, and fluoride applications. Your contribution directly supports the clinic’s mission to reduce oral disease burden and improve patient outcomes through evidence-based hygiene and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive oral health assessments, including medical history review and intraoral examinations, to identify patient needs.
  • Perform professional prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and polishing to manage periodontal health and prevent disease progression.
  • Apply topical fluoride, sealants, and other preventive agents as part of routine care or targeted community programmes.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques, diet, and lifestyle habits to promote long-term dental wellness.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential patient records and treatment notes in compliance with clinic protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Sterilise instruments and ensure operatory surfaces, equipment, and supplies meet infection control and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with dentists and other clinical staff to coordinate treatment plans, referrals, and follow-up care.
  • Participate in oral health promotion activities, such as school visits or community outreach, when required.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Community Oral Health from a recognised institution.
  • Valid registration and practising license from the Oral Health Association of Kenya (OHAK) or the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • Current Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on clinical experience as a dental therapist or hygienist.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including electronic health records and office productivity tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for patient interaction and team collaboration.
  • Solid clinical skills and up-to-date knowledge of dental hygiene procedures, oral pathology, and preventive care.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities to manage diverse clinical situations.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and remaining current with industry advancements and updated treatment protocols.
  • Strict adherence to regulatory, ethical, and oral safety standards at all times.
