Role Overview
As inABLE's Communications & PR Manager, you will own the organisation's public voice and shape how its work on digital accessibility, assistive technology, and disability inclusion is seen and understood. Your days will blend strategy with hands-on execution: advising senior leaders on messaging, building relationships with journalists and partners, turning program data and personal stories into persuasive content, and running campaigns that expand reach and influence. This role is central to inABLE's ability to grow its funding, partnerships, and policy impact, because visibility and credibility are prerequisites for those goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead an integrated communications, PR, and stakeholder engagement strategy aligned to inABLE's growth, fundraising, advocacy, and partnership priorities, while serving as a strategic adviser to senior leadership on messaging and positioning.
- Build and maintain high-value relationships with journalists, editors, development partners, donors, government contacts, private sector actors, influencers, and sector networks to secure coverage and visibility.
- Design and lead communications for flagship events, campaigns, and conferences, ensuring they produce media coverage, stakeholder engagement, and influence on policy or partnerships.
- Manage reputation and crisis communications, providing timely, values-based responses and advising leadership on emerging trends and reputational risks.
- Lead development communication and knowledge management: systematically document and package impact stories, beneficiary voices, case studies, learning briefs, and research findings, working with program, MEL, and partnerships teams to turn evidence into clear narratives.
- Oversee the production of reports, articles, multimedia stories, videos, newsletters, web content, and digital campaigns, ensuring they are accessible, inclusive, on-brand, and aligned with inABLE's values.
- Lead digital communications and community building across the website, social media, and newsletters, using audience insights and analytics to refine content and grow a network of champions, alumni, partners, and advocates.
- Manage the communications team, consultants, vendors, platforms, campaigns, events, and budgets, fostering cross-functional collaboration.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, Development Communication, Marketing, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Eight to ten years of progressive experience in strategic communications, public relations, corporate affairs, development communication, or brand leadership, ideally within international development, nonprofit, social impact, or policy settings.
- Proven ability to design and implement communications strategies that advance organisational growth, visibility, influence, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong track record in thought leadership, executive communications, media relations, brand positioning, and public engagement.
- Excellent skill in translating program results, evidence, and human-interest stories into persuasive content for donors, policymakers, media, partners, and communities.
- Solid understanding of donor-funded programming, advocacy, disability inclusion, digital inclusion, or related development sectors.
- Experience managing communications teams, consultants, vendors, digital platforms, campaigns, events, and budgets.
- Exceptional writing, editing, storytelling, stakeholder management, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Experience in crisis communications, reputational risk management, strategic advisory, and cross-functional leadership.
