Girls Not Brides became an independent charity in 2013. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mrs Graca Machel and Sonita Alizadeh are Girls Not Brides Global Champions and advocates to end child marriage. Girls Not Brides is a global partnership of more than 1300 civil society organisations from over 100 countries committed to ending child marriage and enabling girls to fulfill their potential. Members are based throughout Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. We share the conviction that every girl has the right to lead the life that she chooses and that, by ending child marriage, we can achieve a safer, healthier and more prosperous future for all. Stronger together, Girls Not Brides members bring child marriage to global attention, build an understanding of what it will take to end child marriage and call for the laws, policies, and programmes that will make a difference in the lives of millions of girls. Job Description

Role Overview

This role sits at the point where Girls Not Brides' communications priorities become content people actually stop and watch, read and share — social posts, short films, photography and design assets that keep child marriage on the public agenda. Day to day, the person in this seat runs the rhythm of our social channels while also producing the multimedia behind campaigns, publications, launches and influencing moments. It suits someone who can read a performance dashboard and a creative brief with equal ease, and who cares as much about how a story is told as about the story itself.

The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya or Mexico City, Mexico, and reports to the Communications Manager. It is a two-year fixed-term contract. Because we work as one global team, there may be occasional early-morning or early-evening commitments to connect colleagues across time zones — this is the exception rather than the norm — and some international travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver social media strategies, plans and calendars that turn wider communications priorities into channel-specific activity across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
  • Write and produce platform-appropriate copy and visuals, adapting tone, format and length to each audience instead of republishing identical content everywhere.
  • Create engaging multimedia assets — graphics, video, photography and other communications materials — that support publications, campaigns, launches and influencing moments.
  • Develop creative concepts and narrative approaches that translate organisational priorities into compelling content across digital channels and long-form outputs.
  • Track social performance through analytics and audience insight, and use what the data shows to refine content, improve engagement and inform future plans.
  • Work alongside the Senior Digital Communications Officer to keep digital journeys joined up for key audiences, and contribute to audience mapping with colleagues in external engagement.
  • Build and maintain a roster of independent creative suppliers — designers, illustrators, photographers, videographers and other producers — handling commissioning, contracting, budgets and delivery.
  • Apply editorial judgement so all content is accurate, accessible, inclusive, ethically sourced and consistent with brand identity; provide visual guidance and support to colleagues across the Communications Team and the wider organisation.
  • Monitor breaking news and emerging opportunities, responding quickly where it advances our priorities and escalating judgement calls appropriately, while contributing to content calendars, forward planning, asset libraries and cross-team communications work.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Essential: Experience in digital or social media communications within a not-for-profit, international or intergovernmental organisation, social movement or social enterprise.
  • Demonstrable experience developing and delivering social content across multiple platforms, with a clear understanding of how content should be adapted for different audiences and channels.
  • Hands-on content creation skills spanning graphics, video, photography, multimedia assets and written copy.
  • Experience using audience insight, analytics and performance data to shape content planning and strengthen engagement.
  • Strong social media planning skills across LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, including scheduling and monitoring tools.
  • Strong graphic design and visual storytelling ability, with proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, CapCut or comparable design and video editing tools.
  • Experience applying brand guidelines and visual communication principles across a range of materials and platforms.
  • Solid grasp of branding, accessibility, audience engagement and platform-specific content requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage several creative projects and competing deadlines at once, while keeping quality and consistency high.
  • Desirable: Experience in child marriage, girls' education, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) or related thematic areas.
  • Video production, photography or animation experience, and experience designing reports, publications or long-form communications materials.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French and Spanish.
  • Experience living and/or working in Asia, Africa and/or Latin America & the Caribbean.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • A two-year fixed-term contract with a global organisation working across multiple regions. Candidates must already hold the right to work in their country of base and retain it for the full duration of the contract.
  • A market-competitive salary, benchmarked through the Birches Group's detailed survey of comparable national NGO salaries in the selected location, paid in the local currency.
  • A genuinely cross-geography communications team, with collaboration across regions and the flexibility to accommodate different time zones when needed.
  • Some international travel, as necessary, to support the work.
