Role Overview
This is a hands-on senior accounting role covering three East African legal entities — Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda — and it sits where local bookkeeping meets group-level reporting. Day to day you will own the rhythm of the month-end close, keep statutory and tax obligations on track, and shape numbers into reports and forecasts that operational leaders can act on. The position matters because reliable, transparent financial information is what lets the business grow across the region with confidence while keeping compliance and risk firmly under control.
It is a full-time, permanent role based on-site at our Nairobi office, working a 3-2-1 hybrid pattern: three days in the office and two from home each week, with at least one of those office days falling on a Monday or a Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Run and coordinate the month-end accounting cycle for the Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda entities, including reconciliations, accruals and review of journals.
- Prepare management reports and variance analysis that give finance and non-finance colleagues a clear view of entity and regional performance.
- Support statutory reporting and tax compliance across multiple legal entities, working with internal stakeholders and external advisers to hit local filing deadlines.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting cycles, consolidating entity inputs and testing assumptions against actual results.
- Act as the local point of contact for the Shared Services Centre in Marrakech, resolving queries, keeping handoffs clean and ensuring records stay complete and accurate.
- Protect the integrity of accounting data in the ERP system (Dynamics 365 or a comparable platform), tightening processes wherever manual effort or risk creeps in.
- Partner with the Finance Manager East Africa and Group Finance on reporting requests, projects and ad hoc analysis, including responses to audit and compliance queries.
- Build financial awareness among operational teams, explaining results and helping managers use financial information in their decision-making.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in Finance, Accounting or a closely related discipline.
- CA, CPA or an equivalent professional qualification, plus 4–6 years of post-qualification experience.
- Broad general accounting experience gained in East Africa, ideally covering Kenya, Tanzania and/or Uganda.
- A track record of supporting statutory and tax compliance for more than one legal entity.
- Hands-on use of an ERP system such as Dynamics 365, or a similar platform.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence across the wider Microsoft Office suite; experience applying AI tools to finance work is highly desirable.
- Strong written and verbal English communication, with the ability to make financial matters clear to non-specialists.
- Exposure to the travel and tourism sector would be an added advantage.
