Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits at the centre of day-to-day diagnostic activity in a neurology clinic, where the technician performs neurophysiological studies — most notably EEG — and supports clinicians as they carry out neurological investigations. The quality of every study depends on careful patient preparation, clean signal acquisition and documentation that neurologists can interpret with confidence, so the role has a direct bearing on how quickly and accurately assessments can be completed. Beyond the technical workload, the technician shapes how patients experience what is often an unfamiliar and anxious visit, and keeps equipment and investigation rooms ready for the next case.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform EEG recordings and other neurophysiological investigations within your scope of practice, and assist with studies requiring technical support, adjusting technique as needed to obtain interpretable results.
  • Explain procedures to patients beforehand, confirm that clinical prerequisites have been met, and keep patients comfortable and informed before and during investigations.
  • Set up, operate and care for neurology and neurophysiology equipment, carry out routine checks, recognise faults affecting signal quality, and arrange prompt repair or servicing to limit downtime.
  • Anticipate what neurologists and other clinicians need during investigations — equipment, consumables, prior records — and ensure everything is prepared and available.
  • Record patient details, investigation information and technical observations accurately and promptly, keeping records complete, secure and retrievable by authorised clinical staff.
  • Apply approved clinical protocols, infection prevention and control measures, and patient safety requirements throughout every procedure.
  • Protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times, and engage with patients and families with patience and respect, including those with complex neurological needs.
  • Support the smooth running of the clinic by keeping investigation rooms and equipment ready, maintaining adequate supplies, and raising operational problems or improvement ideas with the team.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in medical or clinical neurophysiology, neurology technology, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
  • Current professional registration or licensing where applicable to the role.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience in neurological investigations, neurophysiology, EEG or a comparable clinical setting.
  • Demonstrable practical experience performing EEG and other neurophysiological investigations — this will strengthen an application considerably.
  • Previous exposure to a hospital, specialist clinic or multidisciplinary healthcare environment is an advantage.
  • Strong technical grounding in neurological and neurophysiological testing, including competent operation of diagnostic equipment and effective troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of patient preparation, safety and infection prevention requirements.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail when acquiring, recording and maintaining diagnostic data and patient records.
  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families and clinical teams.
  • Ability to work independently when required while contributing effectively within a clinical team.
  • Genuine commitment to confidentiality, patient safety and professional ethics, with a calm and compassionate manner.

Why Join

You would be joining a clinic where the technical work is closely tied to patient outcomes — your recordings and the way you prepare each case feed directly into the assessments neurologists make. The role involves regular collaboration with neurologists and other healthcare professionals rather than isolated work, and the clinic's emphasis on service quality and continuous improvement means there is room to contribute ideas about how investigations are carried out. For someone who takes pride in meticulous technique and in putting patients at ease during unfamiliar procedures, this is work that matters every day.
