Role Overview
This position involves delivering and coordinating nursing education at university level, blending classroom instruction with hands-on clinical supervision in partner hospitals. The work directly shapes the next generation of healthcare professionals by ensuring students acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical bedside competence. Day to day, the lecturer designs course materials, leads lectures and practicals, mentors students during clinical rotations, and contributes to curriculum improvements that keep the programme aligned with professional nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate nursing courses, including creating entirely new modules as needed.
- Conduct high-quality lectures, seminars, and practical laboratory sessions, ensuring engaging and evidence-based teaching.
- Supervise students during clinical placements in hospitals and other healthcare settings, providing real-time guidance and assessment.
- Regularly review and update course content, syllabi, and assessment materials to reflect current nursing practice and research.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues to revise curricula, integrate new teaching methods, and foster interdisciplinary research initiatives.
- Carry out independent or collaborative research, prepare grant proposals, and pursue consultancy opportunities within the healthcare sector.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed journals or other academic outlets.
- Provide academic mentorship and career advice to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as to junior teaching staff.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (or an equivalent degree in a directly relevant field) from a recognised and accredited university.
- At least three years of post-qualification professional experience, preferably combining clinical practice and teaching.
- A current, valid practising licence issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
- Demonstrated potential for university-level teaching, including the ability to design and deliver effective learning experiences.
- Evidence of research capability, such as publications, conference presentations, or involvement in ongoing studies.
