This position is responsible for driving the sales and collection performance of checkoff-based financial products, with a primary focus on government payroll deduction channels. Day to day, you will manage client relationships with public sector employers, coordinate the onboarding of new checkoff schemes, and ensure that monthly payroll deductions are accurate, timely, and fully reconciled. Your work directly supports portfolio growth and keeps non-performing loans low by maintaining strong trust with payroll offices and institutional clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement sales plans to grow the checkoff loan portfolio, targeting both new employer partnerships and deeper penetration of existing accounts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government payroll staff, HR departments, and other key stakeholders to secure smooth payroll deduction processes.
- Manage the full checkoff lifecycle from employer onboarding, employee enrolment, and loan disbursement to monthly collections and arrears follow-up.
- Monitor repayment performance across the portfolio, identifying at-risk accounts early and coordinating with internal credit teams to resolve defaults.
- Reconcile payroll deduction records and resolve any discrepancies or disputes between the company, employers, and employees.
- Prepare accurate sales, collection, and portfolio health reports for management, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities in the Kenyan checkoff market.
- Represent the company at government ministry offices, parastatals, and county offices to negotiate checkoff agreements and ensure compliance with public sector payroll procedures.
- Collaborate with product development and credit teams to refine checkoff product offerings based on market feedback and collection performance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven track record in checkoff products, with direct experience in both sales origination and collections/recovery within the Kenyan market.
- Established working relationships with government payroll staff, HR officers, and public sector stakeholders at national or county levels.
- Deep understanding of the checkoff product market dynamics in Kenya, including regulatory requirements, public sector payroll cycles, and common pain points for employees and employers.
- Solid analytical skills with the ability to interpret repayment data, detect trends, and make data-driven decisions on collection strategies.
- Strong reporting skills, including proficiency in preparing management reports, tracking KPIs, and documenting reconciliation outcomes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with senior government officials, internal teams, and customers.
- A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in a similar role within a financial institution, SACCO, or fintech company offering salary-checkoff products.
- A degree in business, finance, marketing, or a related field is strongly preferred.
