Role Overview
This role is the bank's frontline presence in local communities, responsible for bringing in new customers and ensuring that every loan made stays healthy. Day to day, the officer is out meeting prospective clients from small businesses, churches, and community groups, then guiding them through loan applications from initial inquiry to disbursement. The job also requires steady follow-up on repayments so the branch meets its growth targets without compromising portfolio quality or the bank's reputation for responsible service.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a steady pipeline of new clients by visiting marketplaces, workplaces, churches, and other community spaces to present the bank's loan and savings products.
- Segment potential customers into clearly defined groups — individuals, MSMEs, churches, and institutions — to create tailored outreach strategies and service plans.
- Receive and process loan applications, verifying customer information against anti-money laundering and KYC regulations before approval.
- Analyse applicants' financial documentation, business cash flows, and repayment capacity, then make lending decisions that align with the bank's credit policy.
- Arrange timely disbursement of approved loans and confirm that customers fully understand the repayment schedule, charges, and conditions attached to their credit.
- Actively monitor the loan book, identify accounts showing signs of default, and work with customers early to recover outstanding amounts while preserving the relationship.
- Lead training sessions for customer groups, teaching SMEP lending rules, money management fundamentals, and practical business record-keeping skills.
- Prepare accurate daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports covering business development activities, collections, compliance, and any risks noticed in the field.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A practising Christian who is committed to upholding Christian values and finds meaning in serving others through honest financial services.
- At least a Diploma (or ideally a Bachelor's degree) in a business-related discipline, obtained from a recognised institution.
- Prior experience in banking, microfinance, or a similarly regulated lending environment with sales, marketing, and credit risk exposure is an added advantage.
- Sound ability to review and make sense of financial statements, business accounts, and cash-flow records.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills, combined with a respectful, courteous approach to customer service and stakeholder engagement.
- Comfortable using everyday computer software and office productivity tools; this is non-negotiable.
- A self-starting, results-oriented attitude with the flexibility to work both independently and as part of a branch team.
