Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits within the retail medical insurance arm and is accountable for expanding a portfolio of individual and group medical schemes by converting prospects into active policies and keeping current members engaged. Working closely with brokers, agents, and other distribution partners, the role combines direct sales support with operational administration—from preparing quotations and cover documents to resolving claims and servicing enquiries. The core purpose is to protect revenue streams, improve retention, and position the company as the preferred medical insurer in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end sales support cycle for retail medical business, including preparing quotations, tracking proposal progress, and following up with clients to close sales.
  • Develop and nurture productive relationships with intermediaries and channel partners, identifying opportunities to onboard new producers and expand distribution reach.
  • Undertake renewal management by sending reminders, reviewing policy terms, and coordinating with underwriters to retain existing members before expiry.
  • Issue medical examination letters, travel letters, cover confirmation letters, and decline letters, ensuring accuracy and timely dispatch.
  • Provide technical and product support to intermediaries through one-on-one meetings, presentations, and structured training sessions that improve knowledge of medical insurance benefits, exclusions, and claims processes.
  • Act as a point of escalation for customer and partner issues, resolving disputes around scope of cover, premiums, commissions, and claims within agreed service standards.
  • Maintain precise membership records, customer correspondence files, and proposal documentation, ensuring all business communication and administrative data is stored securely and remains easily retrievable.
  • Handle policy administration activities such as membership card issuance, refunds, cancellations for non-payment, accurate debiting and crediting of proposals, and production of utilisation reports.
  • Monitor market activity, gather competitor intelligence, and feed product feedback to internal stakeholders to support continuous improvement of the medical retail offering.
  • Prepare and circulate weekly and monthly retail performance reports, including sales pipeline updates and portfolio growth metrics, for management review.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, actuarial science, or a closely related discipline is essential; partial or full insurance professional qualifications are an added advantage.
  • At least one to three years of experience in retail medical insurance, sales support, or a similar client-facing role within financial services.
  • Strong understanding of medical insurance products, policy administration, and regulatory requirements governing intermediaries and licensing.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively, influence decision-makers, and convert leads into long-term business relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to present to groups and explain complex insurance concepts clearly.
  • Being commercially aware and customer-driven, with the ability to balance client needs against business objectives.
  • Solid emotional intelligence and interpersonal judgement when handling difficult conversations, claims escalations, and dissatisfied policyholders.
  • Proficiency in using CRM tools, Excel, and standard office software to track performance and produce management reports.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills, given the high volume of documentation and strict turnaround times involved.
