Role Overview
You will join the Business Growth Services team in Garissa, working hands-on with local micro and small entrepreneurs who are part of Inkomoko’s community programs. Your day-to-day work involves mobilizing business owners, delivering practical training, and providing ongoing one-on-one consulting that helps them stabilize and grow their enterprises. This role is central to Inkomoko’s mission of building thriving local economies by directly strengthening the businesses that anchor Kenyan communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and enroll eligible entrepreneurs into the program, clearly explaining participation details and confirming that community members understand the expectations.
- Act as an Inkomoko ambassador in Garissa, building relationships with local authorities, community structures, and partner organizations to support outreach and program visibility.
- Coordinate all training logistics, including preparing materials, setting up venues, recording attendance, and ensuring sessions start and finish on schedule.
- Deliver training sessions using Inkomoko’s materials in Somali, Swahili, and English, and provide feedback to the senior trainer on how modules can be improved for local relevance.
- Conduct intake assessments for new clients, capturing baseline monitoring and evaluation data in Inkomoko’s electronic systems.
- Visit clients monthly to review business performance, generate cash flow statements and profitability analyses, and offer realistic, strategic advice to improve sustainability and growth.
- Connect clients to additional Inkomoko services such as financing and advanced training, and support investment colleagues with applications, due diligence, and credit repayment tracking.
- Maintain accurate client business records, submit weekly and monthly reports on time, and assist the monitoring and evaluation team with surveys and data collection in Garissa.
Requirements & Qualifications
- University education in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, or a related field, or currently pursuing such a degree.
- Strong financial and accounting skills, with familiarity with business financial policies in Kenya.
- Fluency in English and Swahili is required; proficiency in Somali is highly desirable.
- Solid digital literacy, including practical use of Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, listen, and build trust with diverse personalities and cultural backgrounds.
- Genuine interest in micro and small businesses, with a basic understanding of how they operate and the challenges they face.
- Proven initiative, personal drive, and willingness to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present to varied audiences.
- Flexibility to deliver consistent results under pressure, while maintaining honesty, professionalism, and critical thinking.
- Must be based in Garissa or the immediate area and be available to work in the community, with access to a smartphone for ongoing coordination.
- Candidates must not be currently employed by another organization.
