Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on leadership position in a microfinance setting, where you will take full ownership of a branch's day-to-day performance and long-term growth. You will spend your time on the floor coaching staff, building relationships with clients, reviewing loan portfolios, and spotting opportunities to bring in new business. Your work directly determines whether the branch meets its targets and stays financially healthy, so expect a role that combines people management, sales strategy, and disciplined risk oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all daily branch activities, from staff scheduling and workflow to customer service delivery, ensuring smooth operations at every level.
  • Drive client acquisition by developing local networks, following up on leads, and positioning the branch as the preferred lender in its market area.
  • Manage and grow the branch's loan portfolio, balancing new disbursements with diligent monitoring of repayments and delinquency levels.
  • Design practical retention strategies, such as regular client check-ins and tailored follow-ups, to keep existing customers engaged and loyal.
  • Set clear sales targets for yourself and your team, then track progress and adjust tactics to ensure revenue and growth goals are consistently met.
  • Serve as the main escalation point for client complaints, resolving issues quickly and fairly to protect the branch's reputation.
  • Prepare accurate branch reports on financial performance, operational metrics, and portfolio quality, submitting them on schedule to senior management.
  • Enforce internal policies and external regulations, making sure all lending practices remain compliant and ethically sound.
  • Identify untapped market segments and new product opportunities, then propose and implement approaches to expand the branch's footprint.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline is strongly preferred, though equivalent practical experience will be considered.
  • At least three years of experience in a microfinance institution, credit-focused bank, or similar financial services environment.
  • Proven leadership experience, including supervising teams, delegating work, and holding staff accountable for performance.
  • A track record of hitting client recruitment and portfolio growth targets, preferably in an emerging-market or community lending context.
  • Solid understanding of credit assessment, loan products, repayment structures, and customer relationship management practices.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Swahili, with the ability to present to clients, staff, and senior management confidently.
  • Demonstrated capability to handle pressure, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced branch environment.
  • A proactive, results-driven mindset with excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail in financial reporting.
