Job Description

Role Overview

This position places you inside a fast-moving engineering and assembly workshop in Nairobi, where you will build, test, and repair the battery systems that power client equipment and electric vehicles. Working directly under the Lead Technical Engineer, you will turn schematics into functioning energy storage units, run rigorous electrical diagnostics, and keep every pack operating within strict safety and performance limits. Your attention to detail directly determines whether a battery leaves the workshop reliable, balanced, and ready for demanding real-world use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble battery packs, modules, connector harnesses, and wiring looms from technical blueprints, making sure every cell, terminal, and insulator is placed exactly to specification.
  • Check polarity, solder joints, weld integrity, and insulation resistance across each assembly before moving units into the testing phase.
  • Run capacity, voltage, current, and charge-discharge tests using calibrated battery analyzer equipment, then document the results for every module.
  • Flag non-compliant cells or underperforming modules for isolation, and record defect data for the engineering team’s review.
  • Diagnose faults in battery management systems, sensors, cabling, and individual cells using multimeters, load testers, and diagnostic software.
  • Replace damaged cells, connectors, fuses, terminals, and wiring, then retest repaired packs to confirm stable thermal behaviour and correct output.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on customer units, maintaining clear service and repair histories on every battery that enters the workshop.
  • Keep the workbench organized, calibrate diagnostic tools, and always follow chemical, thermal, and electrical safety protocols when handling lithium-ion or other secondary battery chemistries.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in battery pack assembly, EV systems, consumer electronics repair, or energy storage equipment maintenance.
  • Confident, practical skill with multimeters, DC power supplies, battery analyzers, electronic loads, and standard diagnostic tooling.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer assembly procedures without guesswork.
  • Precision-oriented approach to soldering, terminal crimping, wire routing, and insulation checks, with a zero-tolerance mindset for short-circuit risks.
  • Solid working knowledge of electrical safety, hazard mitigation, and PPE compliance inside a battery workshop environment.
  • Familiarity with Battery Management Systems (BMS), lithium-ion cell balancing, and EV battery architecture is a clear advantage.

What We Offer / Why Join

You will receive a competitive monthly salary of between KSh 40,000 and KSh 50,000, along with the opportunity to work on advanced lithium-ion and energy storage systems at a dedicated Nairobi engineering facility. This is a hands-on technical role where your diagnostic skill and assembly quality have a direct impact on product reliability, giving you meaningful experience in a growing sector.
