Role Overview
This teaching position centres on delivering a dynamic, learner-focused Art and Design curriculum to young students, using creativity as a vehicle for building confidence, social skills, and foundational academic abilities. Day to day, you will prepare stimulating lessons, supervise hands-on projects, and observe each child’s development closely, while working collaboratively with colleagues to align classroom practice with the school’s educational vision. Your role matters because strong early exposure to visual arts nurtures curiosity and self-expression, which underpins the well-rounded growth the school strives to achieve under the Competency Based Education framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging art lessons that reflect the school’s mission and the principles of Competency Based Education, adapting activities to suit varied learning levels.
- Work with fellow teachers to create cohesive unit plans, lesson sequences, course frameworks, and records of work that keep the curriculum structured and purposeful.
- Build activities that support early literacy and numeracy through creative methods such as storytelling, imaginative play, and recognition games involving letters and numbers.
- Observe and guide children’s behaviour, using constructive feedback and confidence-building exercises to help them embrace positive social values.
- Tailor instruction for learners with different learning needs or behavioural challenges, ensuring that every child can participate meaningfully in class.
- Curate classroom displays that celebrate students’ completed artwork and demonstrate their creative progress to visitors and parents.
- Plan and coordinate educational excursions that broaden learners’ exposure to different environments and inspire real-world artistic observation.
- Track each child’s achievements through regular assessments, then compile clear progress reports for parents and update records of individual development.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or Arts Education with a specialised focus on Art, and have attained at least a B- grade in O-level examinations.
- Be registered as a qualified teacher with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- Bring at least one to two years of hands-on teaching experience, ideally with early primary learners.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of the Competency Based Education curriculum and how to translate it into practical classroom activities.
- Show proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for planning, record-keeping, and report generation.
- Possess the ability to teach an additional subject, which will be treated as a valuable advantage during selection.
