Role Overview
The Area Supervisor coordinates the kitchens, delivery operations and schools within an assigned area, keeping the full service chain running reliably for learners. You will guide dispersed teams, monitor performance across cost, production, delivery, service, safety and controls, and resolve issues before they disrupt daily operations.
This is a practical leadership role: you will work closely with kitchen and operational leads, make decisions on competing priorities, and keep the Regional Manager informed of performance, risks and support needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage area budgets and cost per meal, review cost and volume variances with Finance, and agree corrective plans with the Regional Manager.
- Coordinate kitchen preparation, production yields, dispatch and deliveries with Area Operations Officers, Kitchen Managers and Logistics to improve readiness and on-time, in-full service.
- Monitor service use and learner experience, including meal tapping and wallet utilisation, and work with PDA and school support teams to address inconsistent feeding or escalated concerns.
- Maintain food safety and operational control standards, escalate critical risks promptly, and verify that corrective actions are completed with supporting evidence.
- Settle conflicts between production and school requirements, clarify responsibilities for dual-role Kitchen Officers, and escalate decisions that exceed your authority.
- Align support from Logistics, Food Safety and Quality, Supply Chain, Facilities and school support teams; raise unresolved constraints with the Regional Manager.
- Coach and manage direct reports, review team performance, check staffing coverage, and provide clear area updates on results, risks and open actions.
Requirements & Qualifications
- University degree or equivalent qualification.
- Two to three years of experience managing end-to-end operations across multiple sites in a high-volume distribution or comparable environment.
- Experience coordinating production, logistics, delivery and service functions, with evidence of improving cost, safety and service performance.
- Background supervising functional leads, managing performance across dispersed teams and resolving operational handoff problems.
- Familiarity with the Kenyan operating environment is an advantage.
What Success Looks Like
- Kitchens, delivery teams and schools operate as a connected chain, with on-time, in-full delivery at 95% or higher.
- Meal costs and budgets remain on plan, with recovery measures agreed early when performance falls behind.
- Meal tapping exceeds 85% and wallet utilisation reaches at least 75%.
- Food safety requirements are met across the area, with a 100% pass rate and no tolerance for critical failures.
- Priority conflicts are resolved quickly, with clear decision-making responsibilities for PDA, Area Operations Officers and Kitchen Managers.
- At least 90% of escalations are resolved within 48 hours, and 95% of corrective actions are completed with evidence by their due dates.
- Teams meet their targets, have appropriate staffing coverage and keep the Regional Manager informed of emerging issues.
