Accounts Intern

Role Overview

This three-month internship is designed for a qualified finance graduate who wants hands-on exposure to a shared services accounting function. The intern will support the finance team across daily ledger, cash, banking, costing, reporting, credit, and creditor processes, helping to keep financial information accurate and deadlines met. The work matters because it strengthens financial control, supports reliable management reporting, and helps the organisation meet its internal and regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep general ledger accounts accurate by posting entries, reviewing balances, investigating differences, and preparing reconciliations for month-end close.
• Carry out cash office duties, including recording receipts and payments, handling daily cash transactions, and following established cash control procedures.
• Reconcile bank statements and maintain the cash book so that recorded cash positions match bank records.
• Support job costing by collecting cost information, allocating expenses, and helping compare actual costs against expected figures.
• Assist with management accounts preparation by compiling schedules, checking financial data, and preparing supporting analysis for review.
• Contribute to credit management by monitoring customer balances, reviewing credit exposure, and following up on overdue accounts.
• Maintain the creditors ledger, process supplier transactions, and help resolve invoice or payment queries.
• Apply internal policies and regulatory requirements to daily work, and escalate any discrepancies or compliance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A relevant degree from a recognised university, with at least Upper Second-Class Honours.
• Full qualification as CPA (K) or ACCA.
• Good computer skills, including confidence with MS Office packages.
• Experience using an ERP system would be an added advantage.
• A collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and analytical abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
