Job Title: Accountant (Portfolio Entities)

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing management accounts, ensuring statutory compliance, coordinating audits, and supporting financial reporting across a portfolio of entities. This is a hands-on role suited to an accountant who is highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and committed to maintaining strong financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Desktop, including supplier invoices, payments, receipts, journals, bank reconciliations, and credit card transactions across multiple entities.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and support timely month-end and year-end close processes for assigned entities.
  • Manage treasury, cash flow, statutory compliance, including VAT, withholding tax, corporation tax, payroll-related remittances, and intercompany transactions, ensuring all balances are accurately reconciled.
  • Coordinate annual audits by preparing supporting schedules, responding to audit queries, and liaising with external auditors and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare monthly accounts for portfolio entities, ensuring consistent application of accounting policies, accurate period-end cut-offs, and timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain reporting calendars, standardize accounting processes and working papers across entities, and provide financial analysis, cost reviews, treasury support, and other reports required by management.
  • Support corporate and administrative finance activities, including invoicing, loan schedules, bank account administration, board documentation, and other ad hoc finance-related tasks.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA (K), ACCA, or active progress towards a professional accounting qualification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ hands-on accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably supporting multiple entities or within an outsourced accounting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, Kenyan tax legislation, statutory compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and Microsoft Excel, including reconciliations and financial working papers. Experience with Jedox is an added advantage.
  • Experience supporting multiple legal entities, cross-border operations, or group accounting environments is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with management, auditors, and external stakeholders.
