Job Title: Animal Health Technician
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Animal Health Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting animal health and production activities, including field demonstrations, sample collection, disease surveillance, and routine animal care procedures. This position requires a strong commitment to animal welfare and the ability to work in diverse settings such as livestock markets, agricultural shows, and field operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in animal health field demonstrations and agricultural shows
- Conduct sample collection and ensure proper dispatch to laboratories
- Inspect livestock stock markets to monitor animal health and welfare
- Collect data and write technical reports on animal health and production
- Demonstrate and train farmers on external parasite control techniques including dipping, spraying, and dusting
- Carry out vaccination programs for livestock
- Perform closed castration, dehorning, ear tagging, branding, deworming, disbudding, docking, debeaking, and hoof trimming
- Carry out simple treatment of animals for common conditions
- Participate in disease search and reporting activities
- Maintain accurate records on animal breeding and animal health
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Animal Health, Animal Health and Production, Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Diagnosis, Poultry Science, Veterinary Public Health and Meat Technology, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
- Be registered with the Kenya Veterinary Board
- Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution
Additional Desirable Qualifications
- A certificate in Environmental Health (Meat Inspection) will be an added advantage
