Role Overview
We are looking for an animator to join our production team and bring motion to characters, objects, and graphics for commercial and entertainment projects. Working closely with directors and other artists, you will own individual shots from early blocking through final polish, ensuring every movement serves the story and meets the technical standards of a professional pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce keyframe animation for characters, creatures, props, and motion graphics using your primary tool among After Effects, Blender, Maya, or Toon Boom.
- Translate storyboards, animatics, and creative notes into dynamic, performance-driven animation that fits the project’s visual style.
- Set up or adjust rigs and character controls as needed to achieve clean deformations and reliable movement.
- Block, refine, and polish shots through multiple review cycles while respecting deadlines and production schedules.
- Collaborate with designers, modellers, and compositors to ensure animation integrates smoothly with lighting, camera, and effects work.
- Manage scene files, maintain clear naming and organisation, and deliver clean exports for downstream workflows.
- Actively troubleshoot technical issues that arise during animation, such as rigging artefacts or render interop problems, and propose practical fixes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in at least one of the following tools: After Effects, Blender, Maya, or Toon Boom, with a clear ability to deliver production-ready output in that software.
- A professional animation reel that highlights your work on commercial or entertainment projects, including finished shots that show your full contribution.
- Hands-on experience animating within a studio or freelance environment for commercial audiences or entertainment media.
- Strong understanding of timing, weight, anticipation, staging, and follow-through, with a keen eye for believable motion in both 2D and 3D contexts.
- Ability to take direction, iterate quickly on feedback, and stay organised while juggling multiple shots or versions.
- Working knowledge of adjacent skills such as character rigging, camera movement, or basic compositing is a plus.
